    Chongqing Business Mission in April 2008

    This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Seattle-Chongqing Sister City Association and a number of events are being planned in both Seattle and Chongqing to commemorate this increasingly important relationship. I would like to draw your attention to a Seattle mission to Chongqing from April 14-20, 2008.

    This mission will focus primarily on doing business with Chongqing and will take place on the margins of the 8th Annual China Chongqing Hi-Tech Fair held from April 17 through 20.

    Why is it important to go to Chongqing in April 2008? Consider:

    • the special role Chongqing – China largest city – plays in China’s western development initiative;
    • Beijing’s significant financial commitment to Chongqing;
    • the growing demand in Western China for U.S. goods and services;
    • the opportunity for Washington State companies to capitalize on the success of 25 years of good relations through the Sister City Association; and
    • the recent speech given by Chongqing’s incoming Party Secretary, (former Minister of Commerce) Mr. Bo Xilai, highlighting the importance of Chongqing’s sister city relationships as being of fundamental importance to his administration.

    Please join the Washington State China Relations Council, Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development and the Seattle-Chongqing Sister City Association in Chongqing the week of April 14, 2008.  Visiting the 8th Annual China Chongqing Hi-Tech Fair is just part of what we have planned that week.  Through the programs we are arranging with the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office and the Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, participants will have the opportunity to:

    • participate in “match-making” services, one-on-one meetings with prospective clients and partners relevant to your company’s interest;
    • receive high level briefings on the opportunities related to Chongqing’s June 2007 designation as China’s fourth autonomous economic region (joining Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Economic Sphere);
    • either visit or exhibit at the trade fair; and
    • join in ceremonies with senior Chongqing officials to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the sister city association.

    Give your Western China prospects a boost – if your company is currently doing business in or has considered doing business in Chongqing – do not miss this exceptional opportunity to connect with Chongqing’s senior leadership from both the public and private sectors.  This is an ideal occasion to visit Chongqing if your interests are for business.
