10/23/13: TechNW – Automotive Tech & New Technologies

Check out the videos from the event on our YouTube Channel. Photos from the event are posted on our Facebook page.

TechNW is a meeting of the brightest minds and most innovative technology companies in the Northwest. It is the region’s high profile, must-attend forum for learning, business development and strategic networking. By fostering intellectual and creative interaction among industry leaders, TechNW provides critical insights into the future of ever-evolving tech sectors, many that originated and continue to thrive in Washington State.

This year, TechNW will be a 3-part event series featuring two panels focused on different sectors and a reception at each event.

Topics & Speakers:
The Connected Car
Are you aware of the Northwest’s rapidly growing automotive tech cluster? Without a single car manufacturer within 1,000 miles of Seattle, the Northwest is becoming a recognized center in the evolution of the automobile.  Expertise in mobile networks and applications, along with big data technologies has spawned native automotive tech companies and drawn global players in the sector to Puget Sound’s ever expanding innovation economy. By 2025 it’s estimated that just the embedded automotive telematics part of the auto industry will be a $20 billion market with every car having broadband connectivity. Consumer demand for always on connectivity has extended to expectations for a high quality digital experience in and with the car. Content and services for maps and entertainment are driving the first wave of this exciting evolution.

Bridging the Gap Between the Health Industry and Technology
Every minute, if not second, we hear about the next “new” technology and how it could impact our lives to either make it easier or more efficient. Although having the option to unlock your phone through fingerprint recognition would be cool, what about being able to test your sleeping habits to uncover whether you have a sleeping disorder or not, without having to go to a lab? Or if you were able to easily track and analyze data to understand your baby’s developmental progress? One UW Researcher and Professor, Julie Kientz, has developed new technologies and is implementing emerging technologies to help answer these questions, and more, in an effort to bridge the gap between the slow-moving health industry with the ever-evolving technology industry.
