The Internet of Things (IoT) envisions the interconnection of billions of everyday physical objects, embedded with sensors and actuators, over wired and wireless networks and often over IP. These objects provide data in real-time to perform complex analysis and respond quickly, sometimes without any human intervention. The convergence of many factors – ubiquitous connectivity, big data analytics, and embedding of computing into everything is heralding this IoT era.
While the widespread adoption of IoT will take time, now is the time for entrepreneurs, investors, and industry executives to start understanding the implications of IoT and to start exploring opportunities that will continue to emerge in this new era.
