Want to learn how you can use data to help your company, organization, and/or community? Do you get asked to “show the data” but you’re not sure how to or where to even start? Want to learn from tech industry experts?
Washington Technology Industry Association is partnering with Census 2020, Seattle Public Library, King County Library System, and Lake Washington Institute of Technology to hold free data analysis and visualization skills workshops.
You’ll learn:
- How to interpret data for your own purposes
- How to access Census Bureau data
- How to tell stories using Tableau Public
- How to use Census data in different ways
With the skills taught in the workshops, you’ll be able to:
- Identify needs in your community more accurately
- Conduct market research
- Advocate for your community using data
- Tell convincing stories with data
The workshops are open to the public with a special focus on community organizers, nonprofit communicators, and small business owners, along with college students and advanced high school students interested in business, technology, social work, public health, or social sciences.
All Census Data Workshop 3 attendees will receive FREE access to Data Story Academy’s online data visualization courses.

This intro-level workshop is for those who want to understand the basics of statistical research and how it’s relevant to their work. Do you want to learn basic data skills, how to conduct market research, and/or access relevant data? Then this workshop is for you! Registration has ended.

Basic Data Visualization
This workshop is designed for those who have a basic understanding of data gathering and interpretation but would like to take it to the next level. In this workshop, you will learn how to create charts and maps using data sets. Registration has ended.

Data Visualization
This is the final workshop of the series. Ideal attendees for this workshop are curious about Tableau Public, what it is, and how to use it. In this class you will learn the basics of how to create interactive data visualizations using Tableau Public. Registration has ended.

FAQ
What is the cost to attend?
These workshops are free to the public.
Do I need a computer?
Workshops 2 and 3 will require a computer. All locations will have either laptops or desktops computer for use but they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have a laptop of your own, it would be a good idea to bring it just in case.
Do I need to attend all 3 workshops?
No, you do not but you are certainly welcome to. The workshops are designed for you to jump in where you feel comfortable.
