Get Charged Up at Smithers Apex’s Wireless Power Summit

In a society that revolves around convenience and connection, wireless charging is becoming more and more enticing and in-demand. The industry is in an exciting position to change our relationships not only to our phones, but to other electronic devices as well – a topic that will be much-discussed at Smithers Apex‘s eighth annual Wireless Power Summit on November 10-11 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel. Seattle, a city where new startups seem to be cropping up every day, couldn’t be a more perfect location for the summit, and is home to over 150 of the international leaders like Amazon, IKEA, Dell, and Energizer that will be in attendance at the conference.

The summit will bring together key decision-makers from across the supply chain to discuss the latest innovations, challenges, and successes in the wireless power industry. As the industry continues to evolve and grow, so has the Wireless Power Summit’s focus and agenda. This year’s agenda features applications beyond the cell phone, including power tools, furniture trends, hearing aids and “earables,” laptops, tablets, and  more.

Smithers Apex spoke with Wireless Power Summit presenter Hatem Zeine, CTO of Ossia. Hatem’s presentation, Remote Wireless Power Is Here, Now What?, will include Ossia’s findings on how Cota, wireless charging areas similar to WiFi, will be adopted over time and how they will influence users, product designers, service providers, and industrial applications.

“Ossia’s wireless power Cota technology will change our thinking about how we use our current devices when they are constantly powered,” Hatem said. “When we know that using the device will not drain the battery, this will mean increased usage, and this exact change will cause a huge adoption of wireless power units to power not only our current devices, but also IoT’s that are currently feeling the impact of power availability on its proliferation. We believe that remote wireless power will revolutionize the IoT market and enable a truly expanded deployment of devices we need and some we did now know we needed.”

Cota will affect not only the wireless charging industry, but the typical consumer. “When wireless power is available at a distance, many profound changes will happen to our devices; how we interact with them and how we live our lives,” Hatem said. “We will be spending the majority of our days inside a wireless power location, like at home, the office, or the public coffee shop of airport…This means that our phones will be constantly charging to the point that we can say the phones are powered instead of charged, since we will be running our days with 100% battery throughout the day.”
