Greythorn ‘Inside Technology Market Report’ Finds Majority of IT Professionals Value Career Development Over Salary

Findings Align with WTIA’s Mission to Foster Top Talent in Washington State

Seattle, WA- March 11, 2014 – Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA), the not-for-profit trade association that serves the networking, policy and growth capital interests of technology companies in Washington State, in partnership with Greythorn, one of the longest established professional recruiters in the technology sector, today announced the availability of the Inside Technology Market Report 2014. Conducted by Greythorn, the survey focuses on the demographics, length of tenure, work week, job security, career motivations, department changes, reward and bonus trends of IT professionals. The majority of full-time and contract employees surveyed identified career development as their top priority when it comes to job retention and seeking new positions.

Over 300 IT professionals from Washington, the Bay Area and across the United States responded to the survey. The majority of respondents were males (75 percent) working in software development (21 percent). Key findings include:

  • Economic Outlook; 66% feel optimistic about the future of the economy over the next 12 months
  • Job Security; 60% feel secure in their current role
  • Compensation; 85% expect a pay raise in the next year
  • Length of tenure; Nearly 30% have been in the tech industry for only 1-3 years
  • Unique Benefits; 62% enjoy remote working

“The Greythorn report shows that over the past year the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett-area saw the lowest unemployment rate out of the 11 most populous metropolitan territories. The need for tech talent in Washington State is stronger than ever and there are no signs of this trend slowing down,” said Michael Schutzler, CEO of the WTIA. “To meet the explosive demand for tech professionals, the WTIA is encouraging our education system to make computer science a top priority. This will allow Washington State to develop a pipeline of homegrown talent and support our thriving technology community.”

The survey was conducted in Q4 2013. The full report can be found on the WTIA site or requested at https://www.research.net/s/InsideTechnology2014.
