Membership Monday | WTIA’s New and Renewing Members
The WTIA member community is a diverse one, to say the least! And we want to highlight some of the fun and interesting facts about our new and renewing members in this weekly series. We hope you take this opportunity to get to know your fellow WTIA members and peek behind the curtains of their (sometimes) wacky spaces.
This week’s feature company is Hyper RPG! Here are Emily’s responses on behalf of her company:
What is your role at your company?
Emily: Community Manager
What is your company known for?
Emily: Variety Twitch Network- live geek-focused entertainment 6 days a week, ~9 hours a day
What do you hope to gain from your membership with WTIA?
Emily: Networking with other Washington companies and partnering with them to highlight their work to an international audience
What’s your favorite part about working in your city?
Emily: So many other tech companies and delicious Korean and Indian food.
What new technological advancement interests you the most and why?
Emily: We’re really excited about the opportunities between Virtual Reality and the Twitch platform- immersive virtual experiences combined with the interactivity of live programming will create something incredibly interesting and unique.
What’s one unique aspect of your company’s culture?
Emily: Because we do live, unscripted programming we are constantly morphing and adapting. Because that programming is also interactive, we’re constantly hearing commentary and critique from our audience, which we often implement on the spot.
What’s a goal for your company this year?
Emily: We want to be the media outlet that Pacific Northwest tech companies think of to show off all the awesome tech and games they’re producing.
If you were to explain your company to a room full of 6th graders, how would you go about doing so?
Emily: We make live interactive shows that are free to watch on the internet. Those shows range from a cyberpunk role playing game, to playing games with the people who make them, to playing a role playing game about giant robots where we destroy the figures with power tools on air! The great thing is that you get to talk directly to the people on screen while those things are happening!
What’s your favorite work perk?
Emily: Our sometimes in-office puppy, a Shiba Inu named Kaiju Big Battle. Also, so much coffee we could swim in it.
What TV show’s office most resembles your workplace dynamic?
Emily: Parks and Rec
What was your result from the Tech Animal Quiz?
Emily: Mantis Shrimp
In your opinion, what’s the best thing we’ve probably never heard about in your city?
Emily: There’s a spaceship that’s crash landed in the middle of Redmond, and it’s the base of operations for Hyper RPG! We can prove it with pictures!
Is there a unique story behind your company name or logo?
Emily: We’re a sister company to Harebrained Schemes, so we wanted a name that would be rabbit themed. The name Hyper Rabbit Power Go! (Hyper RPG) reflects the retro 80s vibe, and so does the imagery of the logo. We’re focused on highlighting awesome games, tech, and developers in the Seattle area, so the Seattle skyline fit perfectly into our logo.
Thank you to everyone who participated! We will be posting the rest of the winners each week the rest of this month.
