Membership Monday | WTIA’s New and Renewing Members

The WTIA member community is a diverse one, to say the least! And we want to highlight some of the fun and interesting facts about our new and renewing members in this weekly series. We hope you take this opportunity to get to know your fellow WTIA members and peek behind the curtains of their (sometimes) wacky spaces.

This week’s feature company is Green House Data! Here are Alexa’s responses on behalf of her company:

What is your role at your company?

Alexa: I am the Client Services and Support Analyst. In this role, I have a number of different jobs including delivering exceptional customer service, processing orders, billing, creating and running ticketing metrics, technical writing, and more.

What is your company known for?

Alexa: Green House Data delivers custom IT infrastructure with better customer service and satisfaction. Our cloud, colocation, disaster recovery, and managed IT solutions all come with 24/7 Hear from a Human support. Plus, we are a green company: our data centers are very energy efficient and we purchase Renewable Energy Credits for over 100% of our energy consumption.

What do you hope to gain from your membership with WTIA?

Alexa: We just want to support and engage with the technology community here in Washington. Although Green House Data is a relatively new addition to WTIA, our roots here go back years. It’s great to be a part of such a flourishing tech scene.

What’s your favorite part about working in Seattle?

Alexa: What I love best about working out of Seattle, WA is that there is always something to do or see. I love Pike Place Market because it’s always a little different and shopping there means shopping local.

What new technological advancement interests you the most and why?

Alexa:  I am very excited for advances in virtual reality. I would love to play an adventure game that makes me feel like I have magic and am on an epic adventure.

What’s one unique aspect of your company’s culture?

Alexa: Green House Data has a very open-door management style that is super refreshing. Our leadership team is very transparent about the overall growth strategy, financials, and decisions being made. Every employee sees our balance sheet at quarterly meetings, for example. I never feel uncomfortable just popping my head in to speak with my manager about anything, and that attitude applies all the way up to the CEO.

What’s a goal for your company this year?

Alexa: Our main goals for a while have been to keep customer churn low – we have an industry low rate of turnover, so we want to maintain that satisfaction – while continuing to grow 100% year-over-year in terms of revenue.

As a non-management employee, I’m taking those goals to heart by trying to keep every customer interaction positive and bring in new business by representing our brand and services as well as I can.

If you were to explain your company to a room full of 6th graders, how would you go about doing so?

Alexa: Whenever you go on the internet, all of those pictures and words are saved on big computers in a far away room. Every website and even every business needs to save their data on these computers, which are called servers. Kind of like waiters at a restaurant are called servers, except we’re serving you information instead of food, and our kitchen is our data center!

Some of you might have smartphones. Those phones connect to data centers every time they send a picture to each other, or update your status on Facebook.

What’s your favorite work perk?

Alexa: I love that we keep the kitchen stocked with employee suggested food and drinks. I actually unload the Costco order every month and organize it all in the kitchen.

What TV show’s office most resembles your workplace dynamic?

Alexa: The Office (U.S.)

What was your result from the Tech Animal Quiz?

Alexa: Mantis Shrimp

In your opinion, what’s the best thing we’ve probably never heard about in your city?

Alexa: I don’t know if it’s a secret, but there’s this amazing chocolate place called Chocolati in the Seattle Public Library that makes the most amazing treats.

Is there a unique story behind your company name or logo?

Alexa: Our CEO Shawn Mills actually designed the logo and came up with the name. It’s partly to reflect the fact that we’re a green company focused on sustainability and efficiency. But also, like plants in a greenhouse, information continues to grow at a rapid pace. Even our smallest clients start with a few applications or backup, and then keep adding and adding to it until our data centers – which are kind of like greenhouses in shape, too – fill up!

Thank you to everyone who participated! We will be posting the responses from the rest of our winners each Monday for the rest of the month!
