“Cathay Pacific is making Seattle its newest U.S. destination. The carrier’s non-stop flights to Hong Kong will begin April 1. Cathay Pacific will fly four flights a week with its new Airbus A350-900 jets. Cathay Pacific touted the new route as the latest new route in its “period of unprecedented growth,” part of what it says is a “strategy to connect new destinations not otherwise served from Hong Kong.””

Seattle Tops the Nation in Tower Cranes for Third Straight Year as Construction Reaches New Peak

Seattle Times | Mike Rosenberg | July 18

“Seattle is the crane capital of America for the third year in a row, as construction across the city has rebounded strongly from a relative lull in early 2018. Seattle has 65 of the towering construction cranes reshaping its skyline, 25 more than the next U.S. city. Seattle had held steady at 60 or so cranes over the last few years, but it had dipped to 45 in the last count six months ago, according to Rider Levett Bucknall, which counts cranes in big cities across the world twice a year. That decline, along with other data corroborating a construction slowdown at the beginning of 2018, suggested maybe Seattle development had peaked.”

“We need a bold, regional approach to housing affordability…We are currently making the largest transit investment in our region’s history. By 2040 we will have light rail connecting Everett to Tacoma and Seattle to Redmond and Issaquah. All of the stations on these lines offer opportunities to leverage our investment to create vibrant, walkable mixed-use communities with significant amounts of new housing and reduced dependence on automobiles.”

“Most mornings, Doug Hayman leaves his Indianola home by 5:30…Hayman and other North Kitsap commuters will have another option soon, with the approaching launch of Kitsap Transit’s passenger-only fast ferry from Kingston to downtown Seattle. Transit officials hope to launch the service this year. The service is the next leg in the agency’s plan to build a fleet of high-speed passenger ferries to connect Kitsap County to the other side of the Puget Sound.”
