That is where the University of Washington’s new Supply Chain Transportation & Logistics Center and its Urban Freight Lab come in. The center and lab opened Wednesday. Researchers there will collaborate with the Seattle Department of Transportation and Puget Sound-area retailers, logistics companies and developers to figure out how businesses can quickly deliver to a growing number of customers when streets are already packed with freight trucks, commuters and cyclists.”

“Washington’s Employment Security Department says that between May and August, Amazon.com posted 11,042 job openings online in King County, double the number from the same period last year. The runner-up was the University of Washington, with 2,757. Microsoft had 1,611. The numbers mean that the tech and retail giant’s Pantagruelian appetite for workers dwarfs that of every other employer in Seattle’s red-hot market for tech skills.”

“Fred Hutch and Virginia Mason have been selected to participate in a national consortium organized by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to fight the deadliest type of cancer. The consortium – called Precision Promise – is the first large-scale precision medicine trial for patients with pancreatic cancer, bringing together doctors, researchers and drug developers from 12 sites around the country. Precision promise aims to advance PANCAN’s goal to double the survival rate by 2020.”
