Last Section of Alaskan Way Viaduct along Waterfront Could Come Down by this Weekend

“The Alaskan Way Viaduct will soon go the way of the Kalakala and Kingdome — another Seattle landmark piled onto the scrap heap of history. The remaining section squats at the end of Marion Street, greeting ferry riders as they disembark. Contractors are working to remove this last double-decker section of the highway along the waterfront and could complete the task as early as this weekend. Removing the Marion Street section caps off nearly 20 years of work and planning since the roadway was damaged by the Nisqually earthquake in 2001, said Laura Newborn, a spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Transportation.”

Seattle Ranks as One of America’s Most ‘Fun’ Cities, Study Finds

“Seattle ranks among the top 20 most “fun” cities in the United States, according to the findings of a new study. The study, by personal finance website WalletHub, compared the nation’s most populous 182 cities and found that Seattle ranks No. 17 when it comes to having fun. The rankings were based on 65 different criteria in areas such as entertainment, recreation, nightlife, parties and costs.”

What to Know About the New Ferry Terminal at Seattle’s Colman Dock

“Walk-on passengers are now using a new ferry terminal at Seattle’s Colman Dock. The first completed area of the terminal opened Sunday. Colman Dock is the biggest ferry terminal in Washington state, serving passengers from Seattle to Bainbridge Island and Bremerton…A new enclosed walkway connects the temporary Marion Street Bridge to the terminal. At high-traffic times, walk-on passengers will line up in the new walkway with separate areas for the two routes.”
