Netherlands Prince to Visit Seattle to Promote, Connect Dutch Startup Scene with Tech Giants

“Microsoft and Amazon might be royalty, of sorts, when it comes to Seattle’s tech scene, but next week a real prince is coming to visit the city to discuss collaboration and innovation. Prince Constantijn van Oranje of the Netherlands will lead a delegation to Seattle on June 21 and 22 to promote Dutch tech startups and accelerate the chance that those companies can connect with businesses in the Pacific Northwest. The prince is a special envoy for StartupDelta, an organization that promotes the Dutch startup scene, and he also is a member of the EU High Level Group on Innovation advising the EU on how to generate breakthrough innovation.”
Seattle Makes Outside Magazine’s 25 ‘Best-Towns Ever’ List

“Seattle was singled out as “Best Big City with Bona Fide Adventure.”…For the past five years, the magazine has asked its readers to choose a list of best adventure towns, but this year’s list was compiled by a “council of experts, ” said Outside’s Associate Editor Jonah Ogles. “Thrill-seekers will never have to look too far in these spots, whether mountain climbing, whitewater rafting or conquering a singletrack trail,” Ogles said in a written release. In addition to adventure offerings, judges considered characteristics including lively food-and-drink scenes, a kid-friendly environment and whether people of all backgrounds are welcome.”
Space Needle Plans Glass Floors and Thrilling Views with $100M Renovation

“The Space Needle plans to improve the high-altitude experience for visitors with a $100 million “Century Project” renovation that starts in September. The landmark has hosted nearly 60 million visitors since opening for the 1962 World’s Fair, but the tower did not go as far as the conceptual design due to limitations of older building materials. A project team started planning ways to implement upgrades with cutting-edge glass technology in 2013. By June 2018, the outer cage-like part of the Observation Deck will be replaced with glass structural barriers, dipping outward at an angle for seamless views.”

“Sibling collaborations and long-term tech bets were just a couple of the storylines at EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards ceremony in Bellevue, Wash., Friday night — recognizing winners across seven categories in the Pacific Northwest regional finals of the national business competition. Seattle-based RFID technology company Impinj won the technology category, as CEO Chris Diorio recounted the company’s 16-year journey to its IPO last year. “Today it’s a beginning of us realizing our vision of connecting every item in the everyday world to the Internet,” he said. Meanwhile, two of the other winners were teams of brothers: Rick and David Cantu of systems integrator and cloud services company Redapt of Redmond, Wash., and Chad and Harlan Robins of Seattle’s cancer-fighting Adaptive Biotechnologies in the life sciences category.”
