“The Cascadia region is more than geography. Cascadia is the strong and enduring ties between two remarkable countries, and between a forward-looking state and province with shared values, connected economies and a beautiful natural landscape that knows no boundaries. We are stronger when we collaborate. It’s why Washington state and British Columbia joined together to form the Cascadia Innovation Corridor last year, and it’s an honor to welcome our friends from British Columbia to the Cascadia Innovation Corridor Conference this fall in Seattle.”

“A high speed train with a one hour travel time between Seattle and Vancouver B.C. sounds like a pipe dream, but Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said the state is working to make it a reality. The topic was broached at the Cascadia Innovation Corridor conference in Vancouver last year, and it has since gained steam. The Washington State Legislature allocated $300,000 for a feasibility study, and Microsoft announced this week it will kick in another $50,000 to move the project forward. The scope of the project has expanded to also include Portland in the route.”

“Tacoma is planning to submit a proposal to convince Amazon to set up its second headquarters close to home, though it will probably be written on municipal letterhead, rather than flowery stationery. Amazon is outgrowing its hometown of Seattle, and Tacoma hopes that by offering more room to expand and a short commute to the original headquarters, it can beat out Amazon’s other suitors. Ricardo Noguera, Tacoma’s economic development director, confirmed his office is working on a response to Amazon’s Request for Proposals (RFP) in an interview with GeekWire Monday. “We have property in the heart of downtown which connects very well with the University of Washington’s Tacoma campus that we plan to include,” he said.”
