“Concur, Microsoft and Zillow are among seven Seattle-area companies ranked by Glassdoor as the best places to work in 2018. Glassdoor’s ranking is based on employee reviews submitted over the past 12 months. Employees anonymously rate their employers on a five-point scale. Glassdoor then reviews and averages the ratings to come up with its ranking. Seattle-area companies ranked throughout Glassdoor’s list the best places to work in 2018 among U.S. companies: Concur (No. 34), Microsoft Corp. (No. 39), Zillow (No. 57), REI (No. 61), Slalom (No. 74), T-Mobile (No. 79), and Starbucks Corp. (No. 96).”

The Seattle Times| Dominic Gates | Dec. 5

“Spanish engineering company MTorres arrived in the Pacific Northwest two years ago to compete for a bigger share of the vast American aerospace market for advanced, automated manufacturing equipment. It’ll have a grand opening next week of a big new facility in Everett where it develops innovative technology for nearby Boeing and other customers. For example, it produced the robotic manufacturing cells inside Boeing’s newest “spar shop” in Everett that drill and fasten stiffeners and rib posts to the long spars for the 777X wings, the largest ever on a commercial jet. But MTorres is looking much further down the runway with its ideas.”

“For much of Seattle’s tech workforce, a Friday at 2 p.m. is when things start to wind down, but not at Hulu. On a recent visit, a rotating cast of Hulugans — the company’s name for its employees — were staffing a conference room dubbed the War Room, flanked by screens tracking social media and site usage. Hulu had just released its updated interface and live TV service on the Roku box and wanted to make sure everything went off without a hitch. ‘We gather for 24-hour shifts to keep tabs on usage, issues that arise from viewer experience or that we see popping up on the Hulu subreddit, and we staff it until we are ready declare all clear and resume normal business operations,’ Richard Irving, Hulu vice president of product, told GeekWire during a tour of the company’s growing Seattle office.”
