Uber Expanding Seattle Engineering Office, Scooping up Space with Room for 750 People

“Ride-hailing giant Uber is expanding its engineering office in Seattle to fit up to 750 people, which is more than double its Seattle headcount today…Uber has 350 employees in Seattle, up from 200 earlier this year, scattered across multiple locations. The company also has more than 60 open positions in Seattle. Engineers at the 3-year-old Seattle office work on a variety of technologies ranging from driver compliance to fleet management to airport logistics.
‘Seattle is an important growth city for Uber from an employment and innovation standpoint,’ Marcus Womack, director of product and head of the Uber Seattle engineering office, said in a statement. “The work we’re doing in Seattle touches just about every aspect of our business, so it makes sense to expand our presence here considering the wealth of tech talent in the region.’”

Seattle Trucking-Tech Company Convoy Gets $185 Million Delivery

“Seattle tech startup Convoy, which connects truckers to companies that need freight moved, has raised $185 million in a financing round led by an investment fund connected to Google…This big funding round will allow Convoy to build more technology for the trucking industry, said CEO and co-founder Dan Lewis. He envisions software that could make it possible for freight companies to assign groups of jobs at once, as well as technology for workers in distribution facilities that will let them prepare for incoming freight.”

Highspot Raises $35m as Demand for Sales Enablement Skyrockets

“Highspot, the industry’s most advanced sales enablement platform that sales reps love, today announced the close of a $35 million Series C round led by new investor OpenView with participation from Madrona Venture Group, Salesforce Ventures and Shasta Ventures. To date, Highspot has raised a total of $64 million in funding.
The new investment will fuel Highspot’s market expansion. The demand for sales enablement technology has skyrocketed, with the percentage of companies with a dedicated enablement person, program or function having increased by 180 percent last year, according to the 2017 CSO Insights Sales Enablement Optimization Report.”

TV Ad Tracker iSpot.Tv Raises $30 Million in Funding

“Riding a growth curve in TV advertising analytics, iSpot.tv announced an additional $30 million of investment capital.
The Series C round in iSpot, founded in 2012, was led by existing investors Insight Venture Partners and Madrona Venture Group. It brings the total investment in the company to $57.8 million to date.
Sean Muller, iSpot’s founder and CEO, told Variety the company will use the new funding to expand hiring across all areas of the business, including engineering, data science, product, customer services and consulting, and sales and marketing. The Bellvue, Wash.-based company has 155 employees today, with plans to grow headcount to around 200 by early 2019, he said.”

Boeing Beats Lockheed to Win $9.2b Air Force Contract for Fleet of T-X Training Jets

“The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing a contract worth up to $9.2 billion for a new fleet of T-X training jets that it originally thought would cost twice as much…Today’s announcement is the latest in a string of successes for Boeing’s defense programs. Last month, Boeing won an $805 million contract to build a fleet of MQ-25 robotic refueling planes for the Navy. And earlier this week, Boeing announced a $2.4 billion deal with the Air Force to provide its MH-139 helicopters as replacements for the Vietnam War-era UH-1N “Huey” helicopters that are used to protect America’s intercontinental ballistic missile bases.”
