Spare5 Raises $10M to Gather More Human Insights for the Internet

Spare5 has just raised $10 million to plough into expansion. While there’s a lot of interesting technology underpinning Spare5’s business, CEO Matt Bencke said it all begins with the community of users, called Fives….Bencke said the funding will be used to expand Spare5’s team in Seattle, which currently numbers 13, and to expand Spare5 to platforms beyond iOS.

“Navigating Cancer’s platform is used by over 1,300 healthcare professionals, and more than 1 million patients. The company recently launched its first mobile app, which sends reminders for things like taking pills and keeps doctors in the loop on how patients are feeling…the company plans to roughly double from 30 employees to 60. It’s also working to expand its Seattle office space.”

Seattle Biotech Adaptive Lives Up to Its Name, Pivots Toward Drug Development

“The company currently employs about 180 people. In addition to hiring 20 people for the new division, Adaptive is also hiring another 30 employees in the next six months. Adaptive raised $195 million in a massive funding round earlier this year, which brought its total amount of cash raised in a year to about $400 million. A significant amount of that money will be used to develop Adaptive Therapeutics.”

“The web-hosting company said today that it will expand its Kirkland, Wash. engineering office with room for more than 225 employees. GoDaddy, which opened the Kirkland office in November 2013 with just 10,000 square feet of space, has grown from 14 to 127 employees in two years. The company now occupies more than 32,000 square feet at Kirkland’s Carillon Point.”

Booming Tech Industry Drives Seattle Unemployment Rate to Pre-Recession Levels

Seattle’s labor market continues to be driven by the boom in tech hiring at Amazon, Tableau and F5 Networks and other companies. And the new jobless report reflects that the tech boom is having positive ripple effects as more new restaurants pop up and developers build new apartment projects to help ease a housing crunch.

Between June 2014 and June 2015, the professional and business services industry sector – which includes tech-related computer services jobs – added 24,000 jobs in the state.
