HackerRank Makes Technical Recruiting More Transparent

TechCrunch | Frederic Lardinois | Jan. 12

http://techcrunch.com/2016/01/12/hackerrank-jobs-takes-the-mystery-out-of-technical-recruiting/

“Like all of HackerRank’s products, HackerRank Jobs focuses on coding challenges. When you apply for a job, you get a coding challenge from the company and if you solve the problem to the company’s satisfaction, you’ll get a guaranteed interview call within a certain number of days (most companies on the service currently advertise a three-day turnaround). If you didn’t pass, the company will also notify you…HackerRank is clearly trying to make the application process more transparent. Most of the companies that advertise on the platform also disclose the salary range for a given job, for example.”

Employers added a robust 292,000 jobs last month, and the unemployment rate stayed low at 5 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. Job gains in the October-December quarter averaged 284,000, the best three-month increase since last January…Healthy consumer spending, modest gains in home construction and an uptick in government spending should offset drags from overseas and bolster growth this year, economists said…For all of 2015, employers added 2.65 million jobs, a monthly average of 221,000. That made 2015 the second-best year for hiring since 1999, after 2014.

“Software and technology rank among the top jobs in the country, but military veteran David Molina fears that the country’s military veterans aren’t getting the support they need to successfully land tech positions when transitioning into the workforce…His group helps veterans by connecting them to mentors, scholarships and apprenticeships, and by sending them to coding conferences at no cost. Operation Code is a resource for employers seeking to hire veterans and it recently launched Deploy, a veteran-run web development consultancy. A few hundred veterans have received mentoring or other support through the group, Molina said. ‘We love what we do,’ Molina said. ‘We’re military vets who love software and programming, and we want to help other vets.’”
