Code Fellows pledges $5M to new Tech Opportunity Fund, with shout-out from VP Biden

“Code Fellows, a coding bootcamp headquartered in Seattle, is pledging $5 million to help women and minorities learn tech skills over the next five years.

The scholarships are part of the Tech Opportunity Fund, a partnership between Code Fellows, The Iron Yard, and Operation Hope designed to improve diversity in tech and fill the thousands of technology jobs currently open across the U.S.”

“…Cochran, whose career has been defined by managing companies experiencing explosive growth and change, has witnessed a variety of hiring styles – both good and bad. One particularly bad approach, she said, involved requiring six interviewers to reach a unanimous decision on each candidate.”

Bellevue’s OfferUp raises hefty $119 million, hits ‘unicorn’ value

“Mobile marketplace OfferUp cemented its status as one of the region’s largest tech startups Thursday by snaring another massive round of funding.

The Bellevue buy-sell company raised $119 million from private equity firm Warburg Pincus and existing investors, bringing its total amount raised to $210 million over its five-year life.”
