White House, Department of Labor Announce $120M Tech Grant Competition Prizes

“Earlier this year, President Obama launched an initiative called TechHire, aimed at getting more Americans into open jobs in the tech industry. Today came the next step in his administration’s plan to train more Americans for those jobs. In Baltimore, the White House and Department of Labor announced a $100 million grant competition for businesses to train young Americans for tech jobs, and $20 million in grants to companies that ‘promote rehabilitation and reintegration for the formerly incarcerated.’ ”

“The space has enough room for 2,000 employees, as the company plans to make the move from its six-floor, 100,000-square-foot space at the Metropolitan Park complex to the new building sometime in early 2016…Making sure the office is top-notch signifies how important it is for Facebook to grow outside of Silicon Valley to make its presence felt in the larger Pacific Northwest. When Facebook first opened its Seattle office in 2010, it only had two employees. It’s workers then expanded to 90 that year, whereas there are now 500 employees as of the February announcement of the move.”
