Why and Numbers behind

The Tech Universe Map is a wall-sized portrait of Washington's tech ecosystem — organized not by industry, but by the people who built it. Each company sits in a constellation around the parent organization its founders came from, so Microsoft, Amazon, and the University of Washington each anchor dense networks of the startups their alumni went on to launch, with smaller hubs orbiting in turn.

Updated for the first time since 2015, the 2026 edition traces eleven years of new founder pipelines, engineering centers, and emerging companies — revealing what statistics alone cannot: that Washington's strength lies in how deeply its tech ecosystem is connected to itself.
